Brooks was the only collie marked mahogany brindle in the last litter sired by
Sabre.  I'm so very proud to have had Brooks in my life.  And so profoundly sad that
he is gone due to a freak accident in his new dog yard.

Brooks was my do~it~all dog.  He loved to run and attained his Dual Championship thanks to his co-breeder, Renee McCartin, who insisted that he could do this.  I had the pleasure of releasing Brooks for his Best In Field.  Brooks was also NBQ Veteran at the 2004 Nationals ASFA trial.

My friend, Becky Smith, took Brooks on at 6+ years of age and started doing obedience
with him. She had never worked with an older, male Borzoi before and she was surprised
at his ability and his apparent enjoyment.  Training for obedience began in early
February of 2004 and he got his final leg in July 2004, picking up a high scoring hound
award in the process.  This was done in only four shows.

The Dance

Looking back on the memory of
the dance we shared 'neath the stars above
For a moment all the world was right
How could I have known that you'd ever say goodbye?

And now I'm glad I didn't know
The way it all would end
The way it all would go
My life is better left to chance
I could've missed the pain
But I'd of had to miss the dance.

(written by Tony Arata, sung by Garth Brooks)

Brooks

A gentle soul
cloaked in dark,
trimmed in white
Eyes bright with desire
heart eager to please
Always willing, always sweet.
You left too soon
taking with you a part of me
The music is silent.
The dance is over.
Thank you, sweet boy,
for the dance of a lifetime.
Rest well, my gentle soul.

Brooks

Stand proud my stallion hound
Stand proud and be free. . .
No matter the length of time that we stay. . .
Tis never enough. . . never enough.
We chose to live with creatures that will leave. . .
Way before we go. . . but never would we deny
Ourselves the joy, love and sorry that goes with this choice.
Stand proud my stallion hound. . .
There by the Rainbow Tree. . .
We too shall meet again. . .
Stand proud and be free. . .

Brooks

A thousand celestial hounds,
Oh we hear so clearly tonight,
Above our worldly sounds,
Their voices so gay and light!

A new star lights the sky tonight,
And in our hearts his soul shines bright.

Oh what joy to the heavens he brings
As he tries out his dog-angel wings,
Yet we close our eyes and feel he’s yet here
And in that instant he’ll reappear.

Beyond this earth he did transcend,
The heavens welcomed home our beloved friend.

But we don’t imagine!  We don’t pretend!
We know he’s here, our lifelong friend!
We feel him spin, we feel him prance,
We know our souls will always Dance!

I never thought I would have another 'heart' dog after Sabre died.  I don't know what it is about
these dogs who come down from the Abidjan Kennel, but they grab your heart and hold on for
dear life.  My life has been enriched by having Brooks in it, but it is so very empty without his
beautiful face, his loving looks, his gentleness and his hop-hop exuberance.

Brooks was only bred twice, but those two litters have done well for themselves
in the ring and on the field:

Litter One:

Ch Dibar's Belle of the Ball JC
Ch Mandolin-Dibar Bolero
UKC Ch Dibar's Image of a Waltz
UKC Ch/CH Dibar's the River Dance JC, RN CGC, TDI

Litter Two:

Mandolin-Mielikki's Mahalo, SC
Mandolin-Mielikki Lani Kikeli
Mandolin-Mielikki's Aloha
Mielikki-Mandolin's Pahupahu JC
Mielikki-Mandolin Wikwiki Makani
